Christian responses to transsexuality

6th October 2017

Dr Peter Saunders, Chief Executive of the UK’s Christian MeDr Peter Saundersdical Fellowship, visited All Nations this week to speak about transsexuality and related legal, political and medical developments. In recent years there has been a large increase in the numbers of young people referred to gender identity clinics, and some Christian commentators believe the rising profile of transgender issues has been ideologically driven. Is the best treatment option to alter someone’s body? Or try to alter their sense of identity? Or support them in their conflicted state? The Bible presents gender as binary (see Genesis 1:27, for example) – so how should Christians respond to trans-gender issues? ‘Churches need to be welcoming and redemptive communities, and there is a need to support people in their birth sex,’ says Dr Saunders.
